MIPA Board

Dear MIPA Members,

We write this in hopes that you and your family are safe and are coping with our new reality of social distancing and staying home. Our Executive Committee met virtually this past week to chart out the rest of the social and event year for MIPA. Due to COVID 19, all of our upcoming events are canceled, including Circus. While we are very sad to not host our biggest event of the year, we know that canceling Circus is the right thing to do. We are already thinking of ways to help our community when restrictions are lifted and we look forward to when we can see everyone's faces again.
In the meantime, our book clubs and meetings have moved to Zoom. We have an All Member Meeting coming up soon to elect a new slate of officers for 2020-2021. If you would like to be considered for a role on our board please reach out to Sarah Siler (
MIPA Executive Committee

Hello MIPA Members,

We hope your family is well and that you are finding a rhythm and a new normal as we all do our part to help flatten the curve of the Coronavirus outbreak. Our board and their partners are finding themselves homeschooling, working from home, questioning the piles of laundry, keeping toddlers busy, cooking meals, social distancing, calming fears, riding bikes, washing hands, searching for hand sanitizer, worrying about our elderly and immune compromised community members, washing hands some more, and wondering when things will be "normal" again.
Normal for MIPA is hosting get togethers for members, playdates, book clubs, fundraisers, and community events. MIPA is currently unable to do any of those things but we would still like to be helpful to our community in a safe way.  We asked ourselves "How can we still be a positive force during this time?".  MIPA has decided to take a pause from its traditional role and shift our communication solely to our Facebook page to share carefully selected ideas that you can do at home with your children with items readily available. Our hope is that we can provide a moment of inspiration or a new idea to try to make the time easier for you as you navigate the realities of staying at home for an extended period of time with children.
If you haven't already, please find us on Facebook (Mercer Island Preschool Association) and 'Like" our page to receive updates on your newsfeed. We are looking forward to sharing ideas with you starting Monday, March 23.
Staying home is hard. Being socially isolated is hard. Keeping things going and staying mentally sound is hard. We can do hard things. If things start to feel too hard, please reach out to MIYFS. They have fabulous people to talk to and would love to offer assistance. Their number is 206-275-7657 and your call will be returned within 24 hours.

Why Join MIPA?

The Mercer Island Preschool Association (MIPA), established in 1937, is a private non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to enhancing the lives of children from newborn through kindergarten in Mercer Island and the community at large.

What we do:

  • Build a Community: Meet other Mercer Island families at family-friendly events or social gatherings. MIPA is a volunteer-run organization and a great way to get involved in the local community. Your contributions directly impact our children!
  • Fundraise: We believe that every dollar raised should go directly back into supporting and serving our own community. MIPA partners with Mercer Island Youth & Family Services (MIYFS) to assist low-income Mercer Island families with preschool tuition and the City of Mercer Island to improve the playgrounds on the island.
  • Advocate:  MIPA serves as a voice of preschools and families of preschool-aged children on Mercer Island. We work with the City of Mercer Island and other Community Groups to ensure safe, fun, and full-filling parks and programs on the island.
  • Organize Community Events: Every year we organize several events for the local community. Toy Swap and Circus help raise funds to support our community. Preschool Fair and Summer Concerts are free community events.

Benefits of membership include:

  • Playgroups:  MIPA playgroups form every year based on interest. Playdates are held at members’ homes and at parks in good weather.
  • Family Events:  Organized meet-ups of families and kids at various parks, locales and homes
  • Adult Socials:  Join us for fun and educational adult social events throughout the year –  Book Club, Moms’ Night Out, Parents’ Night Out, and Holiday Party!
  • Community Service: Funds raised at our events support local playgrounds and preschool scholarships
  • PTA Legislative Updates:  Keep up-to-date via member meetings and newsletter updates on what is happening in the legislature regarding our children’s education.
  • Discounts:  With your MIPA membership card, you can receive discounts on products and services from many local businesses.
